~ BESS, W51 HD and W80 AXgen to feature at Finland’s largest energy industry event ~
WEG, the global manufacturer of motors, drives and energy technologies, will exhibit at Energia 2026, taking place from October 20 to 22 at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre in Tampere, Finland. Visitors to stand A731 will be able to explore technologies supporting the changing energy landscape, including WEG’s utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), W51 HD motor and W80 AXgen axial flux motor.
Held every two years, Energia is Finland’s largest energy industry event, bringing together energy producers, technology providers, industrial businesses and decision makers. With Finland continuing to expand renewable generation while managing the demands of an increasingly electrified energy system, technologies that can improve energy flexibility and resilience are becoming more important.
A key focus on WEG’s stand will be its BESS, a modular and scalable system for storing and managing electrical energy. Developed for applications including power generation, transmission and distribution and renewable energy integration, the system can support on-grid, off-grid and microgrid operations.
WEG’s BESS incorporates its Energy Management System (EMS), which provides real-time monitoring and control to support integration with electrical networks. the system can perform functions including peak shaving, load levelling, voltage and frequency regulation and energy shifting, helping operators manage supply and demand while improving energy reliability.
WEG will also showcase its W51 HD motor. Combining high density technology with a compact frame, the motor provides high output where installation space is limited. Versions certified for hazardous areas make the W51 HD suitable for demanding energy and industrial applications where safety, reliability and performance are important considerations.
Completing the display will be the W80 AXgen, WEG’s axial flux motor. Unlike conventional radial-flux motors, its rotor and stator are arranged in parallel, allowing greater power density and enabling a lighter and more compact motor without sacrificing performance.
The W80 AXgen achieves efficiency above IE5 and is available in frame sizes from 160 to 250, with power ratings up to 400 kW. Its compact construction can also help machinery manufacturers reduce equipment size, weight and associated transport and storage requirements.
“Energia brings together organisations from across Finland’s energy sector at a time when energy security, efficiency and the integration of renewable generation are increasingly important,” said Anders Näzell, managing director at WEG Scandinavia.
“Energy storage has an important role to play in creating a more flexible and resilient energy system, particularly as the share of renewable generation increases. Improving the efficiency and performance of the equipment consuming that energy is essential. By bringing together our BESS technology with motors like the W51 HD and W80 AXgen, we can demonstrate how WEG supports customers across different parts of the energy system.”
