WEG, a global leader in high-efficiency motors and drives, has expanded its production with the launch of its first ‘Made in Turkey’ motors. WEG Turkey’s facility in Izmir, Turkey, is now producing and supplying WEG motors, including the new generation W20 aluminium motor line, for delivery across Europe. The W20 combines IE3 energy efficiency with robust, reliable performance to meet the demands of diverse industrial applications.
Since acquiring Volt Motors, a key player in Turkey’s industrial motor market, in January 2019, and investing €28 million in modernising the Izmir factory, WEG has transformed the site. It has grown from a local operation into a fully integrated, 60,000-square-meter manufacturing and testing centre.
The Izmir plant’s portfolio includes the W20 motor line. The W20 combines IE3 energy efficiency with a robust, low-noise design to deliver reliable performance and long service life in demanding environments. Full-scale production is now underway for motors up to frame size 132, serving customers in manufacturing, water and wastewater, agriculture and food processing, construction, mining, energy and utilities.
By producing these motors in Turkey, WEG is now able to offer shorter delivery times and increased responsiveness, while maintaining the company’s global quality standards.
“Speed and logistics are Turkey’s main advantages,” said Bilal Serefhanoglu, marketing and export sales manager at WEG Turkey. “Motors can be delivered to European clients in just seven to ten days, with production lead times of four to six weeks. This rapid turnaround is made possible by WEG’s expanded local manufacturing capacity, which allows us to respond directly and efficiently to customer demand.”
Production in Izmir is continuing to grow. Larger aluminium motors in frame sizes 160, 180 and 200 are currently in preparation, broadening the range available from Turkey. At the same time, cast-iron motors with frame sizes from 160 to 355 are produced in Brazil, creating a global network of branches that complement each other.
WEG Turkey’s growing operations also build on the legacy of Volt Motors, which has more than 60 per cent share of the country’s commercial motors market. WEG Turkey’s portfolio includes high-efficiency WEG-branded motors for general purpose, definite purpose and hazardous areas, customised commercial motor lines and integrated solutions that include variable frequency drives (VFDs) and gearboxes.
“Quality comes first for WEG, and that commitment runs through every part of our operations in Turkey,” added Serefhanoglu. “With more than 600 WEG specialists employed in Izmir and a further 20 in Istanbul, we produce around 2,000 motors per day, with an annual capacity of up to one million units.
“By combining local expertise with WEG’s global standards, we are building a manufacturing base that’s fast, flexible and trusted by customers across Europe.”
