WEG, a leading motor, drives and gearbox manufacturer, has strengthened its customisation capabilities in Poland to enable local customers to modify electric motors for a variety of applications. The new motor modification area will provide WEG with greater flexibility in meeting customer specifications across multiple industries and applications.
The new investment will enable WEG to fit motors with Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors or Resistance Temperature Detectors (PT100) to enhance protection in demanding environments. These features automatically disconnect motors in case of overload, intense voltage variations, or phase imbalance.
Keeping water condensation to a minimum is critical for motors operating in high-humidity environments. The motor modification area now enables WEG to fit space heaters to customer’s motors to prevent water condensation and maintain winding insulation resistance within acceptable levels, prolonging the electric motor lifespan.
Feet mounting is another type of customisation that will be available to customers for motors in 160 frame size or smaller. This motor accessory is a great fit for heavy-duty applications where the base withstands significant mechanical thrust. WEG’s innovative design integrates the sides of the front and rear feet for maximum mechanical stiffness.
“We are committed to helping existing and new customers use our efficient, reliable and safe motion solutions in a broader range of applications,” comments Kamil Rygiel, Sales Operations Supervisor at WEG Poland. “With our new motor modification centre in Poland, we are better positioned to tailor our motors to our customers’ specific needs.”
Customers can also benefit from canopy installation — an essential feature for motors operating outdoors or vertically. These motors require added protection from impact and contaminants. Motors installed vertically, with the shaft facing down, require a protective canopy complying with the impact test defined in the IEC 60079-0 standard.
The motor modification area will also enable customers to add insulated bearings and endshields. Large motors or VFD-driven equipment may present induced shaft currents circulating through the bearings. Insulated bearings prevent this by short-circuiting the shaft and frame in the other bearing, ensuring longer operating hours for motors.
WEG’s unique drive endshield design helps extend lubrication intervals by reducing bearing temperature rise. In addition, the fins on the drive endshield help reduce bearing temperature further.
Other accessories available at the new motor modification centre include printing and mounting nameplates and mounting/dismounting flanges (B5 and B14).
