Technip FMC wins the Best EOR Technology Award.
Global energy leader, Technip FMC, has won the Best EOR Technology Award at the 2020 World Oil Awards ceremony. Technip FMC’s award-winning project saw the company partner with motor and drive manufacturer, WEG to help design a subsea power distribution station.
In a first-of-its-kind virtual event, the ceremony recognised the oil and gas industry’s leading innovations and thought leaders. For the awards, more than 270 nominations were submitted from over 90 companies in more than a dozen countries around the world.
From the 84 finalists, the award winners were hand-picked by the World Oil Awards advisory board as this year’s most ground-breaking industry developments. Honourees received awards in 18 categories, covering the full breadth of the oil and gas industry.
Technip FMC beat strong competition to be crowned the winner of the Best EOR Technology Award. The winning subsea station design comprises a variable speed drive (VSD), which WEG supplied, and a transformer that was placed on the seabed, along with power-receiving umbilicals that are connected to a topside generator.
“The WEG team is extremely proud to have partnered with Technip FMC for this prestigious project and look forward to future collaborations,” explained Marek Lukaszczyk, Marketing Manager Europe & Middle East at WEG. “It was a challenging project for WEG’s Oil & Gas team, which helped strengthen its relationship with Technip FMC and showed how great teamwork can yield results.”
“Each subsea processing system requires a pump for either injection or boosting. Every pump is driven by an electric motor that requires continuous alterations in the frequency of the power that is feeding it. Therefore, when process dynamic changes happen in the system, the pump needs to respond accordingly and change its speed via a VSD. This application requires high efficiency and reliability, which is why we manufactured and supplied the MVW01 product for this project.”
“On behalf of the development team, I’m honoured to receive this 2020 World Oil Award,” explained Eduardo Cardoso, director of subsea processing technologies at Technip FMC. “It’s been more than five years since WEG and Technip FMC started working to develop this subsea power station.
“It was an exciting journey full of challenges and learning. Thankfully, we had a great team and awesome development partners. I’d like to thank the Technip FMC technology community, senior management who supported the programme, our customers for the support and guidance, and of course, WEG for the expert technology cooperation.”
