~ Motors, alternators and specialised components tailored for the maritime and offshore sectors ~
WEG, a leading motor, drives and gearbox manufacturer, is confirmed to exhibit at Nor-Shipping 2025 in Lillestrøm, Norway, from 2 to 6 June. The company will present its latest advancements in motor and drive technologies for the marine and offshore sectors. From hall E, stand E03-36, attendees can explore WEG’s robust portfolio of energy efficient motors, drives and control solutions aimed at enhancing performance and sustainability at sea.
“The only constant is change” is the theme of this year’s Nor-Shipping, reflecting the industry’s need to find new strategies, solutions and partners to reduce emissions and improve operational resilience. At the event, WEG will demonstrate how its technology supports a smarter, cleaner marine industry, with a focus on energy efficiency and system integration.
A key innovation featured at the stand will be the W23Sync+ Ultra motor. The motor combines permanent magnet (PM), ferrite or neodymium magnets and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motor technologies. It is anticipated to comply with the upcoming energy efficiency rating IE6, surpassing current European Ecodesign regulations while ensuring reduced energy consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
The W51 HD motor series will also be on display, designed with High Density (HD) technology to provide more power in a compact footprint. These motors are customisable and built to withstand the harsh demands of marine environments, ensuring reliability and longevity.
WEG will also introduce the AFW11W, a water-cooled, cabinet-built variable speed drive (VSD). This modular drive system offers high output currents and is engineered for applications requiring precise control and efficient cooling, like propulsion systems and heavy-duty marine equipment.
For onboard power generation, WEG’s AG10 line of synchronous alternators will be featured. These three-phase alternators are available up to 4,200 kVA, the AG10 lines are suitable for all emergency, prime power or continuous operation.
Next, the W80 AXgen motor will be on show. This motor uses axial flux technology to achieve a compact, lightweight design without compromising power. Unlike traditional radial flux motors, its design enhances torque and performance while reducing size and weight. With frame sizes ranging from 250 to 400, the motor offers greater flexibility for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators, helping to optimise industrial applications while lowering logistics costs and reducing their carbon footprint.
WEG’s exhibit will also include specialised motor components like the WJC motor and brake motor from Rotor, a WEG group company that specialises in brake and custom motors. These components are designed for applications requiring precise control and safety. These components are integral to systems where rapid stopping and accurate positioning are essential, like in winches and hoisting equipment.
“Nor-Shipping provides an excellent opportunity for WEG to demonstrate our latest technologies tailored for the maritime industry,” said Anders Näzell, managing director at WEG Scandinavia. “Our focus on efficiency, sustainability and innovation aligns with the industry’s goals for a greener and more technologically advanced future.”
Visitors are invited to explore WEG’s comprehensive range of marine solutions and engage with the team in hall E, stand E03-36. For more information WEG’s motors and drives, visit the website.
