WEG invests in Italian warehouse expansion

Reducing time-to-market by investing in growth

Global motor manufacturer, WEG has significantly invested in its Italian branch with the expansion of its storage and distribution hub in Lissone, Milan. The 6,000 m2 warehouse extension will facilitate shorter time-to-market for the branch’s low voltage motors and drives offering. The news coincides with WEG Italia’s announcement of its fastest ever year of growth, achieving a significant impact in turnover during 2022.

Italy is among WEG’s primary markets for low voltage motors and drives in Europe and is key for achieving growth in the European industrial market. WEG Italia — the local subsidiary of WEG, the global motor and drive manufacturer — has a long history of driving sales in this region, particularly for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and machine builder market.

The new warehouse expansion will facilitate some of this growth. In addition, the space allows for WEG Italia to provide motor and drive customisations for OEMs and end users.

“The warehouse expansion comes at an exciting time for WEG in Italy,” explained Fabrizio Arosio, sales account manager for the automation business unit at WEG Italia. “The branch is celebrating its fastest ever year of growth, boasting a substantial increase in turnover — much of which will be reinvested into the business. In addition to this, we were named in the top 57 companies in our region for financial results and market presence by the 2022 Industria Felix awards.

“Moreover, the wider WEG business has recently acquired the motion control business unit of Gefran, an Italian manufacturer of industrial automation. We have become the sole propriety of the motion control business unit, further improving our presence in the Italian market, but also across other regions with Gefran facilities. This includes Germany, China, India and more.” continued Arosio.

The successful year for WEG Italia is largely attributed to the organisation’s focus on fulfilling the increased demand in the market, specifically for large global players with facilities in Italy. The warehouse expansion will further facilitate this increased volume of orders, while also creating more opportunities for customised motors and drives.

“The warehouse will also create new job openings at WEG Italia,” concluded Arosio. “To begin with, we will need at least four new operatives for the warehouse — and we are likely to see this need continue to grow in the coming year.”
