Powering the maritime industry

~ WEG Benelux and Rotor B.V. to co-exhibit marine technologies at Europort 2025 ~

Global motor and drive manufacturer WEG will exhibit at Europort 2025, taking place from November 4 to 7, 2025 at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands. Together with its co-exhibitor Rotor B.V., acquired by WEG in 2024 and now part of the WEG Group, the company will highlight products designed to enhance efficiency, reliability and sustainability in the maritime sector.  WEG Benelux and Rotor B.V. will welcome visitors at stand 1219.

Europort is one of the world’s premier maritime events, bringing together more than 24,000 professionals and over 1,000 exhibitors from across the global industry. With a focus on innovative technology and complex shipbuilding, including offshore, fishery, naval and superyachts, the exhibition provides a unique platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

WEG Benelux and Rotor B.V., will highlight their role as flexible and sustainable solutions partners, committed to supporting a cleaner and more efficient marine environment. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet experts from both organisations, including representatives from WEG Benelux and WEG’s international team.

Among the products on display will be the W22 three-phase induction motor, demonstrated working together with the W80 AxGen motor. The W22 range offers significantly lower energy consumption, reduced noise and vibration and improved reliability, making it ideally suited for challenging marine environments.

The W80 AxGen axial-flux motor offers outstanding torque density in a compact design, with efficiencies of up to 96.9 per cent. It also allows operators to reduce logistical and installation costs. Its modular scalability means that multiple units can be combined, providing maritime OEMs with unparalleled flexibility to develop lighter and more sustainable equipment.

Rotor B.V. will feature its brake motors, designed for robust and flexible operation in demanding offshore environments. These motors can have up to a IP67 level of protection, making them suitable for operations where they may be exposed to harsh conditions like dirt, powerful jets of water or even temporary immersion.

Also featured will be the W23 Sync+ hybrid motor, designed to meet the new IE5 efficiency standard and reduce energy losses by up to 40 per cent compared with IE3-rated motors. The system is combined with WEG’s CFW900 variable speed drive (VSD), delivering precise torque, speed and position control across a wide range of operating conditions. This combination provides measurable energy savings, reduced ownership costs and enhanced performance for propulsion and auxiliary marine systems.

Rotor B.V. will also display its water-cooled motors for propulsion and thruster systems. These motors give off less heat and can cool themselves, and with an IP55 protection level they engineered to withstand the most challenging maritime applications while ensuring reliable performance and extended service life.

Visitors can also learn more about the WG20 geared motor series, WEG’s first in-house developed gearbox family. The WG20 range is available with torques from 50 to 18,000 Nm and is highly efficient thanks to its smart two-stage design, low circumferential speeds and optimised lubrication. The WG20 comes in both aluminium and cast-iron housings and is durable and maintenance-free under normal conditions.

“The marine environment is among the most demanding and motors play a vital role in keeping vessels operating safely and efficiently,” said Martijn Brinks, commercial branch manager at WEG Netherlands. “Europort is an important opportunity for us to showcase how WEG and Rotor B.V. can support the maritime sector.

“WEG offers a comprehensive range of high-efficiency motors, drives and automation systems ideal for marine applications, while Rotor B.V brings decades of specialist expertise in designing motors to perform reliably in the harshest marine environments. Our combined technologies offer shipbuilders and operators robust, efficient and fully certified solutions to improve both performance and sustainability at sea.”
