New facility for WEG France

Motor manufacturer expands warehouse despite pandemic slump

Global motor manufacturer, WEG has upgraded its premises in France to support the company’s commercial success in France and Algeria. The new premises encompass over 1000 metres squared of office space, accompanied by 5440 metres squared of warehouse space. The facility will support the predicted growth of WEG France’s workforce, while housing a brand-new assembly workshop to reduce delivery times.

Assembly and painting services for WEG’s gear motor range has historically been outsourced by WEG France. The new facility in the Business Park of Chesne, Saint-Quentin-Fallavier in Lyon, allows WEG to manage these operations internally, reducing lead times for customers.

The warehouse also allows WEG France to consolidate its entire stock in one facility — 30 per cent of which was previously stored in external warehouses. The site boasts five

loading docks, offering a total payload capacity of twelve tonnes. An impressive ceiling clearance of over 10 metres also allow for double the storage volume.

With more storage capacity, WEG France has organised its inventory and developed a rigorous policy of stock optimisation. Areas dedicated to order preparation have also been created, to improve the working environment for WEG’s warehouse operatives.

As well as improving the warehouse environment, WEG’s new facility has been chosen specifically for its ideal geographical positioning. The new facility is just 12km from Lyon airport, 25km from Lyon’s city centre and 8km from Grenoble — in close proximity to many employee’s homes.

“This new building will be a determining vector of the constant quality improvement policy of our services encouraged by the WEG group,” explained Loic Kentrotis, marketing assistant at WEG France. “The warehouse will allow us to reduce our operating and stock management costs, while also maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and improving lead times.”

There were some delays in planning due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, the facility successfully opened in June 2020. Despite the crisis and the economic struggles that will undoubtedly follow the pandemic, the investment made by WEG France reflects the confidence the branch has in its future development.

These new premises follow the opening of a liaison office in Algeria at the end of 2019, enabling WEG France to strengthen and develop its business in France and Maghreb countries. More information on WEG’s operations in France can be found at https://www.weg.net/institutional/FR/fr/.
