WEG expands W60 motor range

Global motor manufacturer, WEG has expanded its range of W60 motors. The three-phase induction motors are the most compact modular motors on the market and are now available in frame sizes 335H/G and 400G/F. The new sizes are ideal for applications on compressors, pumps and fans, and have been developed for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) market.

Expanding on the existing W60 motor frame range, the new frame sizes are among the shortest frames available on the market, requiring a very small footprint installation compared to similar products. As a horizontally mounted motor, developed specifically for optimised mounting design, the range is also incredibly easy to assemble and install in a facility.

The established W60 motor range has been developed to meet the intense requirements of the oil and gas, mining, and water industries. Designed using the most advanced software, the expanding W60 frame design provides a rugged structure to allow operation in the most severe environments. In fact, the motors are suitable for all high impact and speed applications.

Using high quality cast iron for the frame, and end shields fitted with antifriction bearings, this rugged frame also guarantees low vibration and noise levels.  Even on larger frames, this same result is achieved by a dedicated steel fabricated frame and selected sleeve bearings.

Like all motors from the W60 range, motors in the newly launched frame sizes are available to be used with three different configurations of cooling methods — open motor ventilation (IC01), enclosed air-cooled ventilation (IC611) and enclosed air and water-based ventilation (IC81W). According to the motor cooling method used, the motors have a degree of protection from IP24 up to IP55.

“Striking a balance between size and strength is no easy feat,” explained Marek Lukaszczyk, European marketing manager at WEG. “With the smallest frame size available on the market, the W60 motor requires a very small footprint installation area. Expert engineering from the WEG team and the use of advanced design software has ensured the motor’s size does not compromise on its strength and ruggedness.

“Using state-of-the-art software, we have created a motor range designed to cope well under the most severe of operating conditions — and the expansion of the W60 range to include frame sizes 335H/G and 400G/F is a testament to its success.” concluded Lukaszczyk.
