Leading global manufacturer of motors and drive technology, WEG, has launched new power contactors, extending the popular CWB series with frame sizes 95, 110 and 125. WEG has also added new variants of the CWB series: CWBS power contactors for safety applications in frame sizes 40 to 80, corresponding to rated operating power from 18.5 kW to 37 kW (400 V) and CAWBS auxiliary contactors in sizes 14 to 81.
The CWB series, previously available in frame sizes 9 to 80, is significantly extended with the new frame sizes 95, 110 and 125. The CWB95, for example, is suitable for 45 kW (400 V AC 3-phase), while the new CWB115 is designed for 55 kW (400 V AC 3-phase) and 115 A. Also, the CWB125 is suitable for 55 kW (400 V AC 3-phase) and 125 A.
With the extension of the CWB series of power contactors, associated motor protection relays in the RW117-3D3 series are also available with ratings up to 140 A. Like all CWB contactors, the CBW95 to CWB125 are developed, tested and manufactured for worldwide deployment in compliance with IEC/EN 60947 and/or DIN VDE 0660. The devices are UL approved for use in the North American market.
The narrow width of the CWB series is achieved by a device design with the power contacts separated from the auxiliary contacts and control connections. Despite their compact dimensions, all contactors in the CWB series have integrated NO and NC auxiliary contacts. The auxiliary contacts are forced-guidance types compliant with IEC/EN 60947-5-1, and the NC contacts fulfil the mirror contact requirements of IEC/EN 60947-4-1 Annex F.
Thanks to a new mechanism, the mechanical interlock does not increase the width of the individual combinations. The plug-in locations for the auxiliary contacts are also designed to save space and enable toolless mounting of two-pole or four-pole auxiliary contact blocks.
The design of the CWB power contactors is very user-friendly. Various types of surge suppressors can be plugged in quickly and easily on the front, with no need for any tools. The terminals are easily accessible and are located at different mounting levels according to the contact type.
For currents up to 38 A, low consumption DC coils enable direct control by a PLC without a supplementary coupling relay. The accessory auxiliary contact blocks and surge suppressors fit all contactors in the CWB series, simplifying stock-keeping, type selection and configuration.
New CWBS and CAWBS power contactors for safety applications
Based on the CWB series, WEG has also launched new CWBS power contactors for safety applications in frame sizes 40, 50, 65 and 80. The new power contactors are designed for safety applications with currents from 40 A to 80 A, expanding the existing portfolio from CWBS9 to 38.
The new CWBS contactors cover the power range from 18.5 kW to 37 kW (400 V). The front-mounted auxiliary contacts are coloured safety yellow to make the CWBS power contactors stand out in switchgear cabinets. For machine manufacturers, the contactors simplify the design of machines with elevated safety requirements.
The permanently mounted auxiliary contact blocks are available in the combinations 1NO/1NC, 2NO/2NC and 3NO/3NC. The CWBS power contactors conform to the IEC 60947-5-1 standard regarding mechanically linked contacts and mirror contacts (IEC/EN 60947-4-1). The modular, user-friendly design of the CWB contactors enables simple installation and flexible use.
New CAWBS auxiliary contactors for safety applications round out this important area for machine manufacturers. The range of auxiliary contactors for safety applications is defined by the contacts in the base unit plus the front-mounted front auxiliary contacts in configurations 1NO/4NC, 2NO/3NC, 3NO/2NC, 4NO/1NC, 5NO/2NC, 4NO/5NC, and 7NO/2NC.
A special feature of the CAWB auxiliary contactors is the five contacts in the base unit with various contact configurations (14, 23, 32, and 41). This results in a large number of options with front-mounted 2-contact or 4-contact auxiliary switch blocks or side-mounted 2-contact auxiliary switch blocks.
The CWBS power contactors and CAWBS auxiliary contactors are tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland Brasil. The new power contactors can reliably switch the relatively high start-up currents of IE3 motors. For user convenience, this is indicated by the “IE3 ready” logo on the packaging.
